Pastoral Care – Ermine Primary Welcomes Father Ruben

As the first term of a new school year begins, it’s a busy start for the pupils at Ermine Primary Academy settling into their new classes. Several children have joined us from other schools which provides them with the added challenge of making new friends and getting to know the school staff and routines.

We also have some new faces joining the staff in a variety of roles and we would like to give a very warm welcome to Father Ruben who is going to be spending some time with us this year.

Father Ruben is the Assistant Curate to Father Stephen at St John the Baptist Church and he has already visited our school on several occasions. With a background of being a Science secondary teacher, he is enthusiastic to continue working in schools and has been supporting the pupils and staff, across the different year groups, at Lincoln Castle Academy twice a week in a pastoral capacity. LCA have been really pleased at the positive reaction of Father Ruben’s visits from both pupils and staff and we are happy to be involved too.

The school already enjoys celebrating events in the school year at St Johns Church, such as Harvest Festival, Christmas, Easter and the Summer Leavers celebrations. Father Stephen continues to be a valued visitor in school and the children always look forward to his assemblies. We are certain that Father Ruben will make a similar impact.

According to the Department for Education: ‘Pastoral care should help a school to articulate its values, involve all teachers and help pupils to achieve success.  This definition outlines the commonly expressed view that schools should promote the wellbeing of their students as individuals and as members of the community.’

Father Ruben will be spending the first Thursday of each month with us, supporting different classes alongside the teaching staff and will be taking the assembly that day for the whole school. Some of the children will already have met him this Thursday when he spent his first day with us. He will soon become a familiar face to us all, both in school and in the wider community, while he completes his assistant cuaracy on the Ermine.

Father Ruben is very excitied to join us and support us in any way he can. He will be working in all the key stages over the coming months and getting to know us better.
