Lincoln Castle Conquered by Ermine Primary Students
Don’t worry, it wasn’t an act of civil discord. Thankfully it was all just part of Take Over Day 2017! It’s all about making students aware and responsible for heritage, history and culture. Takeover Day is a nationwide campaign that puts the power in the hands of children and gives them the roles that adults usually do.
46 of our children from Ermine Primary Academy were handed the keys to the castle on the 17th November. They ran visitor services, guided tours, advised on future events and much more. The children had an absolutely brilliant time and it’s experiences like these that prepare them for their future in the world of work, however long away that may be in our case.
The bestselling children’s author of The History Keepers and Takeover Ambassador, Damian Dibben also joined the students at the castle and said:
“The Takeover Team at Lincoln Castle were fabulous – and terrifying! The child tour guides put me in chains in the Victorian prison, the young front of house team checked my ticket and the whole group of 46 children chased me through the castle gates. When you put children in charge, exciting and wonderful things happen.”
We were proud to be a part of this years event. We definitely look forward to next year, hopefully we can take over something even bigger!
