Hey all sports fanatics!
At Ermine Primary Academy we pride ourselves on being fit, healthy and active! Students take part in two physical activity sessions a week and Key Stage Two students each have a term going to Yarborough Leisure Centre to take part in swimming lessons! We have numerous sports clubs running throughout the year such as football, cross country, multi-sports, tag rugby, maypole dancing, cricket, and netball! So there is always more than enough to keep you interested!
Each Tuesday, Mr. Hobson rallies together Ermine’s talented football squad (Year 5 and Year 6) to hone their skills on the pitch. During term 1, Ermine Football Club took part in a football tournament at Sincil Bank
Stadium, home of the mighty Lincoln City FC (Up the Imps!) Unfortunately, a lack of experience (and some rather unusual refereeing decisions) lead to an early exit! Nevertheless, the squad rallied together and in their next game, ran out 7-1 victors over local school Our Lady of Lincoln! The quad then took this winning mentality into their next tournament held at Cherry Willingham Community School, finishing in a remarkable 2nd place out of 14 schools!
The squad are working incredibly hard in training (with the help of the superb Multi-Sports Pro football coaches) and are eagerly awaiting their next tournaments in February and March. The tournament in February could even lead to a final held at Wembley Stadium! Fingers crossed for the boys and girls involved. If you feel that your Jamie Vardy-esque skills could help the squad, lace up your boots and join us each Tuesday!
Year 5 and Year 6 completed their swimming lessons over the first two half-term periods. With each student receiving a swimming award for their individual achievements.
We have a range of swimming abilities
ranging from mini Michael Phelps to those who overcame their water fears to ‘take the plunge’ into the deep end of the pool! A certain young student in year 5 swam 800 meters (that’s 32 lengths-phew!). Learning to swim can be a very rewarding a challenging activity. There are some children who may want to go further with their swimming and that should be encouraged! There are companies such as Coast2Coast First Aid Brampton who teach kids how to swim in their own home, so they can get more practice in and feel more competent in their skill. It will also teach them how to do it safely, it is worth it to research in your area where you can get home based swimming lessons for your kids where you are.
Furthermore, other sporting opportunities are being provided. KS2 Multi-sports is completed every Tuesday by Mr. Bignell, with students taking part in a vast array of different sporting activities, varying each week so you’re sure to never be bored at that club! KS1 multi-sports is also run on a Tuesday afternoon by Multi-Sports Pro coaches. Cross Country club begins this term on a Tuesday evening from 3:15 – 4:00 pm and Ermine Primary are very much looking forward to hosting the first race of the season in March! If you think you’re the next Mo Farah or Paula Radcliffe, get those running trainers on and jog on down to training!
Monday’s mean netball for our amazing netball squad who are training regularly for their upcoming fixtures after half term! Miss McClarron is raring to get going and is already rallying together a squad capable of phenomenal feats!
Remember the importance of wearing the correct equipment for all your sporting activities and ensure you bring a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated and energized!
