It’s the start of another new year here at Ermine Primary Academy and this year our focus is on reading!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.” — Dr. Seuss

In the first assembly of the new year, I will be talking to the children about the benefits of reading more and how we at Ermine will be rewarding those children who read as much as possible!

The children will learn that reading has the following benefits:

• It develops your verbal abilities!
• It improves your focus and concentration!
• It helps you enjoy and appreciate the world around you!
• It improves your imagination!
• It makes you smarter!
• It makes you a more interesting person!
• It reduces feelings of stress and anxiety!
• It improves your memory!
• It helps you to find out more about what you like and dislike and more about yourself in general!
• It is entertaining and fun!

The home-school reading records will be checked every week at school and house points can be earned for reading more than three times a week!

The children who read three or more times a week will have their names entered into a prize draw each term (so six times a year) for the chance to win a voucher!
