Small group Read Write inc support

Children who are struggling to master the basic skills needed for fluent reading and writing. These children will follow Read Write Inc programme broadly but with additional skills taught that need mastering to allow success.

Number Shark

A computer programme designed to support children in learning the basic skills/facts of maths. Children do activities from the programme with the support of a teaching assistant

Read Write Inc 1:1

Children who are falling behind their group in Read Write Inc, at all levels, receive 1:1 sessions for 10, minutes daily to support them in catching back up to their group.

Read Write Inc Assessments

AcceleRead AcceleWrite

AcceleRead AcceleWrite is a computer based intervention to support acquiring fluency in the use of phonics in reading and writing. It takes place daily with a teaching assistant.

Class teacher assessments indicate a child is struggling to build fluency with phonic skills

Improvement in a child’s reading age and application of phonics to writing

Reading coaching using rapid Reading scheme

A 1:1 session aimed at supporting children to improve fluent reading as well as comprehension of what they have read

Class teacher assessments indicate a child is struggling to make appropriate progress in reading

The child will move up through the levels of books and catch up towards their age expected level

Precision teaching

A method of assessing and motivating pupils to learn facts quickly and fluently and so then retain them over time. Delivered 1:1 with a teaching assistant daily.

Class teacher assessments indicate a child is struggling to make appropriate progress or gain fluency in reading or maths

The child will show progress against specific targets of their program. These are reviewed daily and moved on when the child reaches the target rate or amended after a maximum of 8 days.

First Class Maths

3 times a week a small group of children work on maths skills following a cumulative and structured approach. Focusing on numeracy and counting skills to support later mathematical development

A maths assessment is used to show an increase in number ability.

Inference training

A reading intervention to support a group of readers who are struggling to understand the meaning of texts and so do not comprehend what they have read.

Children who are identified as having a discrepancy between their decoding and comprehension levels and are struggling to make enough progress.

Comprehension ability is measured using a standardised assessment.

Small group or individual intervention

If a child is identified as struggling with a particular aspect of the curriculum, or a skill that underpins effective learning then they may receive 1:1 or small group support from a teacher or teaching assistant.

Areas of specific need that are significantly hindering learning and progress as identified by class teacher or teaching assistant.

Dependent on specific objectives of the support but once the child gain fluency in the skills they were struggling with.

Rapid Maths

To help children who are missing key aspects of maths understanding or who are falling behind their peers.

Class teacher assessments indicate a child is struggling to make appropriate progress in maths or has gaps in their knowledge

Assessment against the books within the programme or in class progress.
